(This page is aimed at members of the Soil Biodiversity Programme only.)

The Soil Biodiversity Programme central database is designed to integrate data across the Programme. This integration requires common referencing systems and meta-data standards. NERC requires all Thematic Programme projects to submit their project data and meta-data to the relevant Data Centre (for Soil Biodiversity, this is the ECN Data Centre) before the end of their project period (see Data Policy). A template in Excel has been developed to help projects submit their structured project datasets. The template builds in the necessary links to the Sourhope sampling framework and supports the minimum meta-data required to understand the data. Other structured formats can be accepted, e.g. structured databases (MS Access, Oracle etc.), provided these carry the necessary link and meta-data fields. Other data such as images etc. can of course be submitted as simple files, along with associated explanatory information.

Please note that submission of results data means only that these data will be incorporated within the central database. They will not be released within the 2 year period specified in the data policy unless prior authorisation has been given by the originator.

The template (Excel) and its associated text (Word) document are given below:

Programme members with data to submit to the central database can email their files to d.caffrey@ceh.ac.uk  Please ensure that all the supporting meta-data to fully describe your data is included with any datasets submitted and any access constraints noted, as detailed in the above files.
